Postpartum Care
With Support And Care, We Ease You Into The Fourth Trimester
Immediate Postpartum
Once your baby is born, they will be placed into your arms for uninterrupted skin to skin contact. We know the importance of how this can be the foundation for your new lives together.
While your baby is adjusting to their new surroundings, the umbilical cord remains intact to continue the flow of nutrients and oxygen from the placenta. This is commonly referred to as delayed cord clamping.
Bonding time is prioritized, as our staff understands and values the importance of the Golden Hour. Therefore, initial newborn assessments are performed while baby is in your arms. All newborn procedures and exams are postponed and performed once you consent and feel ready, and we encourage waiting at least an hour before even offering an exam.
During your stay at NCBC, your baby will be with you in your birth suite. Our midwives and birth assistants will be available to support you as you need while you and baby spend precious time bonding. During this time you can rest, bathe, shower, and nourish your body and baby.

Going Home
After 4 to 6 hours of monitoring, you will be all set to bond with your sweet child in the comfort and familiarity of your home. Your first postpartum visit will occur 24 to 48 hours after giving birth, and our Midwives are available to you by phone and text while you are home awaiting your appointment.
NCBC Midwives and staff will continue to provide you with care during routine postpartum visits for up to 6 weeks.
